Research interest
Terrorism and anti-terrorism efforts, military
strategy, security doctrines and armament control,
European Neighbourhood Policy, new security structures
in Europe, theories of international relations. |
Background
Martin Kahl studied Political Science, Sociology
and Philosophy at the University of Münster
and earned his Dr. phil. with the topic “American
nuclear strategy, weapons development and nuclear
arms control politics from Kennedy to Bush”.
From 1994 to 1997 he was scholarship recipient
of the Stiftung Volkswagenwerk with a research
project about “Security policies of the
Central East European States and the development
of a new European security structure”. From
1992 to 2003 he held teaching posts at the Universities
of Osnabrück/Vechta, Jena, Giessen and Saarbrücken.
From 1999 to 2003 he was researcher at the Institute
for Political Science at the University of the
Saarland.
He co-heads the project “Justification with
the same arguments? - Analysing arguments in favour
of restricting human and civil rights under the
pretext of combating terrorism in the USA, EU
and Russia” funded by the German Research
Foundation (DFG) and is involved in the projects
TERAS INDEX and EUSECON.
Martin Kahl joined the IFSH as a researcher in
2003.
