Military Component

The German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) have been involved in the IFSH from the very beginning. Since the establishment of the institute in 1971, an officer of the Bundeswehr ("Military Fellow") has belonged to the Institute's research staff. On the initiative of the IFSH's former director Dieter S. Lutz, an academic office of the Bundeswehr, subordinated to the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces, was created at the Institute in 1997 ("Military Component IFSH").

Since 2007 this particular military post has been attached to the Department of Security Policy/Military Strategy at the Federal Armed Forces Transformation Center.
