Shafiah F. Muhibat, M.Sc.

Research Interest
Regional security cooperation, maritime security, regionalism, Northeast
and Southeast Asia
Background
Shafiah Muhibat obtained a Master of Science degree in Theory and History of International
Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), United Kingdom.
Since December 2000, she has been a Researcher at the Jakarta-based Centre for Strategic and
International Studies (currently on study leave). She has done and assisted in extensive
research on politics and regional security in Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific, and has
special interest in issues of regional security cooperation and maritime security. Until
the beginning of 2009 she was also a lecturer at a private university in Jakarta and was
actively involved in the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP),
which is a track-two cooperation working on security issues in the Asia Pacific. Since
October 2009, she is a PhD Candidate at IFSH with full scholarship from the German Academic
Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD).
