Piracy, Terrorism and Countermeasures

At the heart of the activities in the research cluster “Piracy, Terrorism and Countermeasures” are the multiple forms, causes and means of transmission of international terrorism. Within the context of the analysis of maritime forms of violence, they also are in the context of organized crime.

In the causal analysis the focus is on the study of radicalization processes. In a further focal point, the manifestations and the consequences of armed robbery and piracy as well as maritime terrorism are compared with one another.

In the study of countermeasures, both concrete policies as well as the role of speech and the consequences that result from this for the normative order in the international system are the foci. The various projects study the subject matter from different theoretical perspectives and also seek, thereby, to identify common approaches
