Explanatory Note
Programme coordinators: IFSH in co-operation with the German Armed Forces Staff College (FüAKBw) and the Centre for Civic Education (Zentrum Innere Führung). Financing: IFSH/German Federal Armed Forces Association. Activities: Theoretical development of relations between the military and democratic society as regards the concept of Civic Education by Count Baudissin. The goal of the programme is to analyse civil-military relations in theory and develop solutions for the sending states in the form of a study. Addressees: Officers from Central-, South East- and Eastern European countries, but also scholars and civil servants from the defence administrations and affiliated research centres. Location: Hamburg. Duration: 5 months, and possibly a one month extension. Possible Stipend: 1,300 Euro a month plus free accommodation. Prerequisites: member of their homeland’s ministry of defence, good written and spoken German language skills, contributing to teaching. Letter of interest to IFSH/attn. Herrn Dr. Ehrhart, including a detailed CV in German, a brief essay (max. 2 pages) assessing the role of the armed forces in a democracy.
