Research for Peace and Security
The Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg has been investigating the conditions for peace and security – on a global, regional and local scale – since 1971. The IFSH aims to contribute actively to peace by conducting outstanding and innovative research. Transferring knowledge from research to politics and society is a fundamental part of the institute's work.
We are looking for a student employee (m/f/d) for our Communications Department at our Hamburg office at the earliest possible date.The position comprises 10 hours per week and is remunerated in accordance with TV-AVH EG 2.The place of work is Hamburg. The position is initially fixed term until 30 September 2027. Applicants must be enrolled as students at a state-recognized German university for the duration of their employment.
The Communications Department is responsible for communicating the institute's research to policymakers, the media, and the wider public. Its work includes preparing and disseminating research findings and activities across a variety of publication formats. In addition, the department coordinates the institute's events and advises researchers on all aspects of public-facing communication.
Your mission
- Assisting with the maintenance and updating of the institute's website
- Supporting general communications activities, including maintaining media and event distribution lists, conducting research, proofreading, photography, and image editing
- Providing administrative support, including obtaining quotations and comparing cost estimates
- Assisting with the planning, delivery, and follow-up of IFSH events
- Supporting the planning, production, and editorial management of the IFSH newsletter
- Maintaining the addressBLUE database to support the institute's communications and event management activities
Your profile
- Initial practical experience in communications, media, journalism, or public relations gained through internships, vocational training, or comparable activities
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS); familiarity with TYPO3, Canva, and newsletter management software is an advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and spoken German and English language skills
- The ability to work independently, carefully, and reliably
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
