Climate Change and Conflict

Catastrophic flooding, crop failure, water scarcity: The effects of climate change have become a threat to all people, not only those in the Global South. At the IFSH, our researchers study the security policy implications of climate change, such as: How do the consequences of global warming affect security and peace worldwide? How and with what methods is knowledge about future environmental risks produced and disseminated?

Melting glaciers, flooded cities, people on the move: images of catastrophic futures shape how we imagine the world in times of climate crisis. For activists from Fridays for Future and other climate movements, such visions of the future can become a driving force for protest. Yet the visual language of the climate movement is far more multifaceted, as the exhibition “Climate No Future?” reveals.
