From 29 June to 2 July 2026, the annual meeting of the Missing Peace Initiative (MPI) took place at All Souls College, University of Oxford. The meeting was co-organised by Dr Philipp Schulz, Researcher at IFSH, together with colleagues from the University of Oxford, Yale University, Washington University, the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).
Over the past decade, the Missing Peace Initiative (MPI) has taken stock of current scholarship, policies and programming on conflict-related sexual violence. With a vibrant group of partners and members, the Initiative explores and communicates research findings on the causes, scope and patterns of sexual violence to inform policymakers, improve research and documentation capacity, and to advance policies and practice.
This year’s meeting also included a policymaker event, attended by H.E. Tore Hattrem, the Norwegian Ambassador to the United Kingdom as well as The Lord Hague of Richmond, Chancellor of the University of Oxford and former UK Foreign Secretary.
Launched in 2012, the Initiative is a partnership between leading experts that brings together policymakers, practitioners, scholars and survivors who are working on the issue of sexual violence in conflict and post-conflict settings. Together, these individuals identify gaps in research, policy and practice and explore how to increase the effectiveness of current responses to conflict-related sexual violence.
MPI amplifies new research on CRSV through its Missing Peace Scholars Network, to support the professional development of emerging scholars focused on CRSV and the dissemination of their work to broader research, government and civil society audiences.
