Climate, Climate Change, and Society (CLICCS)

Until 2025, project B3 Conflict and Cooperation at the Climate-Security Nexus investigated interactions between climate change and insecurity dynamics. It is part of the University of Hamburg's Cluster of Excellence CLICCS. Researchers investigated how societies prepare for security situations that have been altered by climate change. They  researched scenario processes as a social technique used by various security actors to prepare for and safeguard themselves against changing climate futures and their risks. In doing so, they also investigated the extent to which these adaptation strategies can lead not only to more conflicts, but also to new forms of cooperation in the face of often transnational risks and complex crises.
